The Chairman of the Board’s Message
Welcome to Simpson College’s 2008-2009 Annual Report. On behalf of the students who benefit from your generosity, I thank you for your support and commitment to quality academic programs. It is because of you, and the many leaders recognized in this Report that we continue to build on the outstanding reputation we enjoy today.
Evidence of your impact is hard to miss. Look no further than the students sitting on the grass with their laptops aglow – busy at work on Simpson’s new high-speed wireless network. See it in the awards being bestowed on our professors for music achieve
ment and innovative research. Recognize it in the exemplary accomplishments of our athletes and the service efforts of our campus as a whole; for the third consecutive year, Simpson was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, contributing more than 40,000 hours of service to the community.
Your continued commitment to Simpson has helped us maintain our financial health even as we navigate a challenging economic landscape. It is more important than ever that we maintain that momentum, so we can always attract the highest quality students and faculty for which Simpson is known. Your support has allowed us to expand grants and scholarships to reach new students who may not have looked seriously at Simpson before – this year, our out-of-state enrollment is the largest in at least three decades.
By all measures, as you’ll see in this Report, Simpson prospered in 2008-2009. And you are helping us move forward, so we may emerge even stronger in the year ahead. We have more work to do, such as establishing a comprehensive campus-wide technology plan that will give us a valuable edge in educational growth and development. We want to increase our enrollment of both traditional and non-traditional students and recruit and retain impressive faculty. Finally, we must continue to expand the base of o
ur support in the annual fund. Together, I know we can.
Thank you again for your support of Simpson College. You help ensure exceptional academic programs and extracurricular opportunities that truly define the Simpson Experience.
Sincerely,
Fred S. Hubbell
